"We think the Asian guy is from another campaign," a Kevin James volunteer told me at James's press conference in front of the John Ferraro (DWP) building this morning.
The volunteer was referring to an Asian guy in a $1,500 suit and $500 shoes who was texting someone all through the conference.
After the conference ended, I introduced myself to the fellow, and asked his name.
"Why?" he asked.
"This is a press conference. Everyone's credentialed here. We all have names." I gave him mine again. "What's your name?"
"Matt."
"Matt what?"
"Just Matt. Not saying."
"Where are you from, Matt?"
"USC. I was just passing by. We talk about this stuff all the time."
"Are you with Annenberg?"
"I don't know."
"Neon Tommy?"
"I don't know."
"You go to USC and you don't know what Neon Tommy is?"
"No," he said.
"Do you have a professor there?"
"Dr. Arake," the man told me.
A month ago, when James had a press conference about Wendy Greuel's schedule, the Greuel campaign sent operatives to the presser, to dish on the reporter who broke the story, Randy Economy.
Today, as the campaign was conducting a press conference on an item about Greuel that I broke--about the fact that she didn't disclose DWP employees' salaries when she disclosed the salaries of nearly all other City Departments--I wondered if the Greuel campaign would try a similar stunt with me.
